Meet Paige, Owner and Photographer with Paige Stevens Photography! When Paige is photographing, she’s capturing your life story. Read how she got started and her VERY helpful tips!

What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
Every wedding couple is different from the other, why should your pictures look like everyone else’s? I am a bright, bold, quirky, fun loving, inclusive, real-life storyteller. I let you lead the way (with minimal direction), I want you to enjoy your time together which will give me a chance to document you as you are and to get those great shots wanted by all brides and grooms. Consider me your very talented photographer friend who is fun to hang out with and has an eye for capturing real moments and emotion.

What’s a weird/unusual tip you tell your couples?
Brides… wear crotchless underwear. Makes for easy bathroom breaks. Instead of sitting like we normally do you will walk in face forward while your maids hold your dress up and you won’t have to worry about pulling underwear down. Also when you are walking down the aisle make sure to hold your flowers down at your waist so we can see your face a beautiful wedding attire.

Grooms… this is not weird or unusual but make sure to have a hanky in your pocket so you can pass it on to your soon to be life partner while you are saying your I do’s so they and even you can wipe away the tears.

What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
I get to capture your life story. It makes me so happy to see the joy my photographs bring to my clients. Make sure to get those prints made and put them up around your home to share them with others.

How did you get to where you are now?
It’s kinda crazy… I took a photography class in high school got a D and blew it off. When I went to college I had the opportunity to work in a dark room again and it was light the heavens opened up, the lights shined down and the angels sang and I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I then transferred to Virginia Intermont College and received my Bachelor of Arts degree in photography. The other part is growing up with my dad always having a camera in his face.

What’s something every couple should know before getting married?
1. Don’t forget who and what this wedding is all about.
2. Do what you both want.
3. When it gets stressful just remember to breathe together
4. When the day arrives take 5 minutes together during the reception, stand in the corner and REALLY look at everything, everybody and comment on it together. After 21 years of marriage, I can remember it all. (yes the pictures help)
5. Hire a photographer you really get along with and you love their work. Remember they are going to be with you the whole day. You want to feel comfortable telling them the leave the room if you’re having a moment when you don’t want anyone around. Don’t worry so much about the cost, you can always cut the budget on something else. (shameless plug for all us photographers)

What’s your go-to spot to eat in RVA?
WaWa!!! I love their cinnamon raisin bagels with berry cream cheese. We can’t forget all the other great food on the menu for lunch and dinner.

What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
Whatever I can find with a nice cold Diet Dr. Pepper.

What do you like to do when you are away from work? And where is your happy place?
Work really never ends when you work for yourself, my boss can be mean. But when I am away you can find me at either one of my son’s lacrosse or baseball games (watching and taking pictures). My happy place…laying on the couch napping with my dogs Casey and Nelson.

What are you currently watching?
I have a ton from Netflix but I LOVE The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime. I have gotten sucked into Riverdale, Manifest, Shameless, Vikings & Schitt’s Creek. The Hallmark Channel is my goto channel. I can’t wait for the final season of Games of Thrones & I really miss Downton Abbey.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on now?
I have always had a love for street photography. I love watching people, figuring out their story. So whenever I am in a place I can, I will shoot some street photography kind of images with my iPhone (one day I will get a nice Leica compact digital camera that I can wrap around my neck). I put them on my Instagram and maybe someday I will put a gallery up on my website and make a book.

What would be in your dream sandwich?
I have two… A big New York style Reuben or Italian Sub!

What’s your go-to dance move?
Jumping in the air! (jump, jump!)
