How They Met
Cait and Phil met in November 2013 through their mutual friend, Carrie. Both were invited to Lake Anna where Carrie has planned a getaway weekend. Cait immediately had a connection with Phil, and she instantly fell in love with his dog, Riley. Phil got Cait’s number and they chatted via text for a while since Cait was still in graduate school in DC. She explains, “We met up again about a month later at Carrie’s family cabin in Luray, VA for a Friendsgiving Weekend and the rest, so they say, is history!”
The Proposal
Phil asked Cait to be his wife while they were in Austin, TX for Phil’s birthday weekend. Unbeknownst to Cait, Phil had already asked her dad for his blessing the weekend before. While in Austin, Cait organized a birthday dinner for Phil. He suggested they stop at a park on the way there, but once they arrived, it was closed for construction. Chain link fence, bulldozers…onto Plan B. “He quickly came up with a plan and ended up proposing under some bistro lights in a pretty, urban park downtown.” Cait said yes and it all worked out in the end.
The Details
“I grew up in a historical house and when we arrived at Seven Springs it reminded me so much of my childhood home.” They immediately loved the atmosphere where their friends, and their pup Riley, could enjoy the weekend. The two wanted the vibe of the wedding to feel authentic, so they went with neutral colors and played with various textures. Inspired by her time living in California, their theme was boho-chic with a classic garden party twist.
The wedding party looked timeless, Cait’s girls in black while Phil and his groomsmen wore a classic gray. “It’s a lot of what I wear, so I knew I’d look back at the pictures years from now and still love that aesthetic.”
The gorgeous green backdrop of Seven Springs complimented their decor perfectly. Their white on white tables were broken up by fresh floral arrangements and wooden chargers. Phil and Cait collected old clear glass liquor and wine bottles to use as water decanters for the tables, inspired by their travels to Colorado.
Their perfect spring night ended up being the garden party they’ve always imagined. “Phil and I kept saying all night how perfect our wedding was!”
Favorite Part of the Day
“Taking a moment at dinner to look around at all the guests seated at their tables, eating, drinking, and laughing. We both loved seeing our friends and family all in the same place at the same time, enjoying a great party.”
Biggest Challenge
“Feeling like I had enough time to properly plan everything, especially with a demanding job that requires a lot of energy and time during the day, and sometimes evenings and weekends!”
For Phil, it was trying not to stress too much and taking a step back.
Best Piece of Advice
“Breathe. Work as a team. At the end of the day, it’s all going to work out!”
