Sophia & Jason met right here in the Fan at Sidewalk Café in 2012. Just a few short years later in August 2015, Jason surprised Sophia with an early morning proposal during a stroll around the VMFA with their Goldendoodle, Leo. He had a friend hiding to capture the whole proposal! Sophia jokes, “I had no clue, otherwise I would have at least straightened my hair!”
The two were married at Jason’s family home in Montpelier. Despite their careful planning with Honeylyn of Kim Moody Design, a week of non-stop rain posed some big challenges for Sophia and Jason. Sophia says, “We had to change our whole vision at the last minute and figure out how to get 175 people under a tent. Thank goodness Rent-E-Quip had a bigger tent to rent to us just a few days before the wedding!” In the end, however, the rain made Sophia & Jason’s wedding that much more intimate. “Do I dare say that I’m glad it rained?” Sophia tells us.
Sophia’s best advice: “Things do not always go as planned. No matter how much you want that 75 degree, beautiful sunny day, you can’t see the future. If you are having an outdoor wedding, have a rain plan that you’re comfortable with. The people that love you will be there rain or shine, and you are marrying your best friend so have fun with it! Take a picture in the rain, wear rain boots, — it’s still your day and nothing can change that.”
