How They Met
Mary Catherine (or MC) and Robbie met through a mutual friend (and MC’s maid of honor!) in December 2014 at a local bar, Social 52. MC explains, “After we met our friend played matchmaker, gave Robbie my number, and he asked me out on a date.” Their first date was shortly after that and the rest is history.

The Proposal
Robbie asked MC to marry him Mother’s Day weekend 2017. “At the time we were living in The Fan close to Monument Avenue, so Robbie decided that would be the perfect spot.” MC thought they were going to meet some friends for dinner, but when they were crossing the street, Robbie got down on one knee in the middle of the median. “It was pouring down rain…but that made the moment even more memorable!” They celebrated with dinner at Julep’s and then met up with some close friends later that evening. “Robbie surprised me with a brunch the next morning! I thought we were just doing a Mother’s Day brunch with his family, but when we showed up my whole family was there too!”

The Details
When picking their venue, these two wanted to get married outside but wanted to have a solid backup plan in case things needed to be moved indoors. They immediately fell in love with The Mill at Fine Creek and liked that everything was done in-house which made for easy planning.

“We wanted to keep things casual and neutral!” They highlighted the natural beauty of The Mill and kept things simple. Their colors were blush, white, and gold with lots and lots of greenery. MC, just like many of us, fell in love with the new trend of mismatched bridesmaid dresses. “The mismatched look was very practical because everyone was able to find a dress they loved that was in their budget and several of the bridesmaids actually had dresses from other events that they were able to re-wear.” Robbie and his best guys wore blue suits with blush ties, perfectly tying into their color scheme For their flowers, they kept in theme opting for a neutral blush color.

MC and Robbie had a beautiful and unique ceremony that was a reflection of their personalities and relationship. “One of our friends is a talented creative director and he made us a really cool wedding logo that showcased The Mill ruins that we used on table numbers, the favors, and a few other spots.” They wanted favors that would double as place cards, and wouldn’t just get thrown away or left behind, so they used an envelope with each guest’s name on the front and a lottery ticket inside! “They were a huge hit!”

Rather than a photo booth, they used a polaroid scrapbook to help capture moments from the night. “My nephews were so excited to be in charge of the scrapbook, they had fun snapping photos of all of our guests and making sure that we ended up with a really special keepsake from the night.”

Favorite Part of the Day
For MC, her favorite part of the day was dancing the night away surrounded by all of her favorite people. Robbie’s favorite? Sneaking away to have their first dinner as a married couple in the cottage attached to the venue. “It was so nice to have a little bit of one-on-one time and to actually be able to eat some dinner!”

Biggest Challenge
“Keeping the guest list manageable to work with our venue and budget. We both have a lot of family and friends, so it was really difficult to keep the list under 140 people.”

Best Piece of Advice
“Don’t let all of the planning and decision makings distract you from the fact that your wedding day is a celebration of YOUR love and everyone who is there is there to celebrate you!”
