How They Met
Savannah and Will met during their freshman year at VCU through an organization called Young Life. They had mutual friends and always found themselves hanging out at the same events. During one semester break, Will asked Savannah to come visit him in DC, a visit the couple considers their first date. Their love snowballed from there, and the two made it official the following spring.

The Proposal
Will asked Savannah to be his wife in early November 2017. Unbeknownst to Savannah, Will had earlier solicited the help of her two closest friends, finding the perfect ring for the perfect girl. Savannah explains, “On the Saturday he proposed, I met Will for dinner at our favorite restaurant, Can Can, then he suggested we walk around The Fan after the meal.” They ended up at Scuffletown Park where they sat and talked for a while. “He told me why he loved me and our relationship and he ended up on one knee. We cried together for a while afterward, excited and nervous.” The newly engaged couple walked to a friend’s house where all of their family and friends were waiting to celebrate.

The Details
Savannah and Will picked Main Street Station because of its unique and breathtaking architecture. “I knew the venue would speak for itself…so we worked around the feeling of the venue.” They kept their decor minimal and classic, using neutral colors and textures. Their colors were beige, blue, and green, a nod to the couple’s style and their own Richmond home. “We wanted the wedding to look like us.” Their simple decor highlighted the natural beauty that comes with Main Street Station as a venue.

With Main Street Station and downtown Richmond as their backdrop, Will and Savannah had a night full of love, family, and friends. Their advice to future couples? “Don’t be overwhelmed by the advice of others, simply do whatever you want to do. There’s not one right way to get married!”

Favorite Part of the Day
Savannah’s favorite part of the day was seeing Will at the end of the aisle. “Being a photographer himself, [Will] asked if he could take a photo of me with his own camera as I walked down the aisle.” And that picture-perfect moment ended up being Will’s favorite part of the day.

Biggest Challenge
“Managing my own expectations. The planning process is never perfect. At some point, you have to internalize that something will go wrong on your big day but it will still be beautiful.”
