How They Met
Alyssa and Trey first met through a mutual friend in 2012, when they were put together on a summer kickball team. Alyssa explains, “He somehow waited until the last week of the season to ask me out.” Trey decided to take his date to a little Mexican restaurant recommended to him by a friend. “I had no idea where Trey was taking me, but apparently neither did he.” The two ended up getting lost for about 30 minutes, looking for the restaurant. But, the extended drive allowed them to chat, finding that they had more in common than just kickball.

The Proposal
Trey asked Alyssa to be his wife during her birthday weekend in 2017.  A few of their friends had come to visit and they decided to go to a vineyard and drink wine on that rainy day. “We had already been there for hours, and he was running out of time. He waited for a break in the rain and we walked down to the water where he proposed on the banks of the river. It was beautiful.”

The Details
“The John Marshall Ballrooms are stunning, and we wanted to have a classic Richmond wedding to host our family members from out of town.” The two loved that The John Marshall was inclusive with in-house catering, staff, tables, linens, and so much more.

They used the vintage ballrooms and the summer season to inspire both their theme and decor. “We used gold accessories to feed into our 1920’s vibe that came from the venue.” Their flowers were bright coral with a ton of greenery to keep a bright, summery feel. Their centerpieces were simple and romantic with a gold charger topped with pillar candles, seeded eucalyptus, and a coral rose.

Their colors brought the theme together with gold/champagne, coral, and bright navy. “To add a pop of color the men wore coral ties and the bouquets had coral and white flowers with greenery.”

While the venue “WOW-ed” their guests, Alyssa and Trey mostly wanted their guests to have a great time. Their summer night ended in a dance party surrounded by their closest family and friends.

Favorite Part of the Day
For Alyssa it was, “after our first look in the John Marshall lobby, we took a trolley with our wedding party to the capitol for pictures. We could finally unwind, pop the champagne, and have fun with our friends!”

For Trey, it was just before they were introduced at their reception. Alyssa explains, “He pulled me aside and said this is one of the moments we should stop and remember.” They were led by their closes friends who had been supporting them for six years and introduced into the ballroom with their family and favorite people cheering for them.

Biggest Challenge
“Nothing! Planning the wedding was amazingly and surprisingly seamless!”

Best Piece of Advice
“Don’t sweat the little things! It goes by too fast to worry about anything. Keep your day as simple as possible.”
