Vendor Spotlight: Rob with Capt. Rob’s Pigalicious BBQ

Meet Capt. Rob, Owner, and Pitmaster of Capt. Rob’s Pigalicious Barbecue Catering, Inc. Here at Richmond Weddings™  we love Capt. Rob and his amazing award-winning barbecue. Read how he got started in his Grandma’s kitchen and you have to read what he put for his dream sandwich.

What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
We only do from scratch onsite catering. This gives guests fresh, high quality smoked meats and southern comfort sides.

What’s a weird/unusual tip you tell with your couples?
Make sure you eat during the day (our smoked hotdog lunch). I don’t want anybody falling out during the ceremony or reception.

What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
Seeing the smile on the faces of the bridal couple when they eat our food. It makes a 20 hour day on our part worth it.

How did you get to where you are now?
I grew up in my Mom/Grand Ma’s kitchen. From there it was the restaurant industry in Richmond and cooking for family/friends at events.

What’s something every couple should know before getting married?
Marriage is hard but rewarding work. Never go to bed mad and eat at the table at home not in a chair in front of the TV. Communication makes marriage fun and fresh and most importantly, LASTING.

What’s your go-to spot to eat in RVA?
Other than my house. ZZQ in Scott’s Addition.

What did you want to be when you were little?
Nascar driver. That did not work out but I do own a 660hp Shelby Mustang for those silly boy moments.

RW Spotlight Capt. Rob

What was your first job?
Dishwasher at W T Grant Dept. Store in RVA.

What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
Bojangles country ham biscuits, grits, sweet tea.

What do you like to do when you are away from work?
Fish. I have salt water in my veins hence the Capt. in the business name. I am a retired charter boat captain. BBQ made me retire.

Where is your happy place?
Gulf Stream seeing the sunrise and reels scream or in Blacksburg jumping to Enter Sandman when the Hokies take the field.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on now?
Doing more pop up events to spread the gospel of award-winning wood only smoked meats.

What would be in your dream sandwich?
Breakfast- Fresh buttermilk biscuit topped with country ham, fried chicken, spicy pimento cheese with a dollop of sausage gravy.  Lunch/Dinner- Grilled garlic butter Texas toast topped with fresh ground beef/brisket patty, fried green tomato, smoked pork belly shreds, cheddar cheese and bbq sauce.

What about Nachos?
Chips, cheese sauce, pulled pork chili, jalapenos, pico and sour cream

What’s your go-to dance move?
White boys don’t dance. Especially at 60.
