Meet Emily Bartell, Photographer, and Owner of Emily Bartell Photography. For Emily, her favorite part of photographing a couple’s love is forming lifelong relationships. Your wedding is one of the most important events of your life, Emily is there to capture all the joy and emotion.
What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
Your wedding day will be one of the most important events in your life. As your photographer, I will not only be there to capture the joy and emotion the day of. I focus on providing you with a complete experience from start to finish. I like to think of myself as your partner throughout the wedding planning process offering tips and advice along the way, referrals for some of the best vendors in the area, and helping you build the perfect timeline. I will ask all the right questions to make sure that nothing is missed when it comes to your photos. By the time your wedding day arrives, you will already know you are in good hands. All you have to do is enjoy the day and be present. I promise to take care of your memories as if they were my own!
What’s a weird/unusual tip you tell your couples?
Have an Aunt who was more like a mother figure, or a sibling you don’t get to see very often? You probably want to make sure to get a photo of just you and that person(s) on your wedding day. Make sure to let your photographer know about all of the special photos you’d like taken beforehand so that nothing important missed.
What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
I love forming friendships with my couples, learning about their love stories, and creating portraits that make them really feel something!
How did you get to where you are now?
I have always been a creative, but it wasn’t until my own wedding that I knew I wanted to become a photographer myself. Throughout the entire process, it was obvious how much our wedding photographer enjoyed her work; I was inspired by the way she was able to tell our story in such a meaningful way, while also bringing out the best in us. When I decided to take the leap, she was a great source of support, and I will always be so grateful for that. Throughout the years I have worked very hard to grow my business and often had to step outside of my comfort zone. It hasn’t always been easy, but the rewards have been so worth it!
What’s something every couple should know before getting married?
Don’t forget to stop and enjoy your engagement. This is such a special time and it goes by so fast, cherish it and each other!
What did you want to be when you were little?
A Ballerina.
What do you like to do when you are away from work?
I love wine tasting, shopping, and nature photography.
Where is your happy place?
The Beach or the Mountains. I love that Richmond is so close to both!
What’s the coolest thing you’re working on now?
Getting ready for the arrival of our first children, who are identical twins!

Cheese and Jalapeños!
