Aleah and Alex
September 30, 2017
How They Met
Aleah and Alex met through mutual friends in college. The two hung out in the same circle of friends for a few years before Alex finally asked Aleah on a first date. Aleah explains, “We had an instant connection from then on!”
The Proposal
Alex asked Aleah to share his life with him on December 16, 2015. That night, after the two returned from work, Alex said he received one of Aleah’s Christmas presents in the mail, but hey messed up the order. He wanted to show her the gift anyway because he figured Christmas would pass by the time the correct one came in. “He then opened the package and said, ‘they put my last name initial on your monogram necklace and not yours!'” He then got down on one knee, in the middle of their apartment, and asked Aleah to marry him. “The monogram necklace still holds a special place in my heart!”
The Details
The two knew they wanted some sort of package deal, where everything was located in one place. After hours and hours of searching, they kept coming back to the beautiful Dominion Club. They went on a tour and were immediately sold. “The trees lining the drive up, the lake, the grounds, everything was picture perfect! Plus, it was like a one-stop shop!” They wanted their wedding to be classic and traditional. “I wanted to look back at our photos with our children and grandchildren and not have to explain that our wedding was trendy at the time!” They went with navy, pink, and gold throughout with the hydrangeas as the perfect compliment.
Since their monogram meant so much to them, they wanted to incorporate it as much as possible, but in a tasteful way, including it in their invitations, guest book, personalized napkins, and even a custom cake topper! “Alex and I also did the southern tradition of ‘burying the bourbon,’ and it worked! Luckily we had AMAZING weather!”
Aleah and Alex wanted to wow their guests with their reception, with good food and great music. The Dominion Club catered, as well as provided beautiful decor like floating candles, lighting, and draped columns. “Something special to us was the cigar bar, we loved utilizing the outdoor patio with bistro lighting.” Throughout their relationship, Aleah’s father had gifted Alex various cigar pieces; a humidor, cutter, table lighter, etc. A perfect addition to their cigar bar.
Favorite Part of the Day
“My favorite part was our first look! I needed a few moments with my soon-to-be husband to take it all in and settle my butterflies…The entire day flew by, and I’ll never forget those first moments together.”
Alex’s favorite part was their entrance into the reception where they were first announced as husband and wife.
Biggest Challenge
“Finding a venue to fit our budget. We paid for a majority of the wedding ourselves and were in sticker shock when we first started planning!”
Best Piece of Advice
“Don’t sweat the small stuff! If you feel overwhelmed by the cost, stop and jot down what’s most important to you and your fiancee…When the planning process gets to be too much, stop and walk away for a few days or a week. You can always pick up where you left off, but feel much calmer!”
