Meet Katie Bonner, Sales and Marketing Manager for Groovin’ Gourmets. According to Katie, the job of a caterer is to make the person who ordered it look good. From their unparalleled customer support to their delicious dishes, like an amazing veggie sandwich Katie swears by, the team at Groovin’ Gourmets has you covered!
What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
Our highest priority is providing our couples with the best service and food to make them look like a rock star. It’s our guarantee to provide each customer with a high touch service their guests won’t forget. Our 5-star reviews and the feeling we leave our customers with after an event with us is what sets us apart.
What’s a weird/unusual tip you tell your couples?
A caterer’s only job is to make the person who ordered it look good.
What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
When I get to read the survey responses of our thrilled clients. I also love getting to design collateral for the business. Telling the story of a clients experience with us and believing in what we do for our clients is special. The talented and caring people who work with this company is heartwarming and part of why it’s fun to come to work every day!
How did you get to where you are now?
I started out of college working for a non-profit in Upstate New York. When the budget for that program was cut I decided on a whim to move to Richmond. In Richmond, I tripped and fell into working in media selling Radio. It was there I realized I wanted the opportunity to solve marketing pain points for one local company. I felt if I could focus on one company and utilize multiple marketing avenues I could remedy those pain points. I was poached from Radio by a breakroom provider called Trolley House Refreshments. That company purchased Groovin’ Gourmets to partly function as a commissary for their Micro-Market program. After spending a lot of time getting to know the team and moving my office to Groovin’ to assist with designing collateral, I fell in love with catering. My many years in the service industry before Radio made it easy to navigate how to work as a member of the team. Always willing to show up to an event and help in any way I could. I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead an amazing sales team and work with a creative and inspiring management team.
What’s something every couple should know before getting married?
Think of what you want you and your guests to walk away from your wedding feeling. That’s what will create the memories and will make every decision after that easy.
What’s your go-to spot to eat in RVA?
A family meal here at The Kitchen! If I’m venturing out into the world though I’m hitting Best Friends Forever. (Until Don’t Look Back opens up again.)
What did you want to be when you were little?
Marine Biologist – until I learned a lot of stuff in the ocean could eat me. #childhoodequalsnofear
What was your first job?
Pied Piper in Old Forge, NY as an Ice Cream girl. I met Pee Wee Herman once and Kevin Bacon had a camp there. Sorry for blowing up your spot Kevin.
What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
“Get Glowing” from Ellwood’s and a protein bar.
What do you like to do when you are away from work?
Hosting porch hangs while playing bartender and hopefully a card game.
Where is your happy place?
On a mountain or deep in the woods. Give me nature and treeeeees!
What’s the coolest thing you’re working on now?
Building relationships between Groovin’ and local businesses. I love getting to tie in local friendors!
What would be in your dream sandwich?
Ok. Real talk. Groovin’ makes the BEST veggie sandwich I’ve ever had. It has roasted broccoli, spiced pickled onion, shaved ricotta salata and feta cheese, pine nuts, and fried shallot on a hoagie. Appropriately named “The Veg.”
Nachos. What would you put on yours?
CHEEEEEEEESE. Whatever veggies you have. Seriously, throw them all on there. Give me avocado and you have a friend for life.
What’s your go-to dance move?
Ok. I accidentally throw one arm up and jump around. A lot. It’s a rare sight, for good reason.
